I am a health services researcher studying policies that impact access to affordable, high quality health care in the United States.
I use quantitative methods to study quality, affordability, and access to health care for pregnant people. I have developed and applied novel claims-based measures of prenatal care quality to uncover variation in routine care provided during pregnancy that was masked by existing measures. Using experimental and quasi-experimental causal inference methods, I examine the impact of safety net health care providers and social services on access to high-quality prenatal care, including Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and a nurse home visiting program. In other work, I study how price and quality information can enable patients to make more informed decisions on where to seek maternal health care services.
I am dedicated to translating my research into policy and practice and I engage health care providers, insurers, and other stakeholders in my work.
